In today's media culture full of photos everywhere--on TV, on busses, on our telephones--it's hard to remember that photos used to be the domain of paper, in magazines like Life and Vu. This year's Mois de la Photo (photo month) takes this as its theme: how photos interact with the page. I spent some time the Maison de la Photographie in Paris with Peter Knapp, a photographer and curator, and we examined the work of photojournalist Tiane Doan Na Champassak: the large, framed photos on the wall, and then how they appeared in print. As a photographer, you never know how the end result will look-- how the image will play with the text and layout in the magazine or book where it appears.
