The Olympic torch came through Paris on April 7, 2008, on its trip around the world, heading to Beijing. After protests in London the day before, everyone was prepared for disruptions across the channel. France is, after all, known for staging protests. Plus, Reporters Without Borders (RSF), which disrupted the torch lighting ceremony in Greece, is based here. Thousands of police officers accompanied the torch as it made its way 28 kilometers through the city. And all along the way protestors waving Tibetan flags shouted and leapt towards the torch to put it out. It actually went out at least once. By the end of the day, the torch and its carrier were put on a bus to finish the last leg. This is my report from that day.
