Guitarist Popo Murigande, known as the Mighty Popo, came to Canada as a refugee from Rwanda when he was 19 years old. He’s been making music ever since, writing songs about Rwanda and the rebuilding of the country after the 1994 genocide. He’s won two Juno Awards, the Canadian version of the Grammys, with his group the African Guitar Summit. I met him at the 2007 Francofolies music festival in Montreal.
